I Would Never Love You

Shi Ning, the eldest daughter of the Shi family of Beiqing, has it all: talent and beauty.

From an early age, she prepared herself for an arranged marriage, so she made the most of her youth. By the time she was twenty-two and had graduated from university, she was sitting at home waiting for her fiancé to appear.

Who could have expected her first fiancé to break off the engagement for love, ruining the match?

Then, just before her second engagement, her next fiancé somehow acquired a son, ruining that match too.

After two failed arrangements, Shi Ning was furious. "That's it, I'm done with arranged marriages!"

She became an avowed bachelorette, focused on making money and building her career.

The Zhao family of Haicheng are nouveau riche, fond of all sorts of dangerous and thrilling pursuits.

With no elders to keep them in check, they have always lived recklessly.

Young Master Zhao had heard all about that famous young woman from the Shi family of Beiqing. The first time they met, he teased her, "Hey, if nothing else works out, why don't we get married? Then I can find my true love the day after."

Shi Ning rolled her eyes at him. "A man as dissolute as you needs a woman who'll make you fall head over heels, then ignore you, just to teach you a lesson."

It was all said in good humor, and neither of them took it seriously.

Yet two years later, Zhao Ziyou was waiting eagerly outside Shi Ning's Wanghailou, begging her to give him a chance to have dinner together.
