In the end, the scum gong successfully completes his job. The demon never gets to see him suffer through torment and be reduced to ashes. It breaks down and spits out a huge mouthful of blood, pointing a trembling finger at the scum gong. Overcome with fury and exasperation, it tilts its head and dies within seconds.
