Wei Luning (Tranquil), the famous perennial runner-up in the Glory's Peak professional league (TGC), has spent seven years as a pro, played for five different teams, and reached the finals eleven times. He's come away with six league runner-up finishes, three cup runner-up finishes, and two global tournament runner-up finishes. His contract was only for one season, and now he's looking for his next team.

The WTK team, nicknamed "Net Too Laggy," fell from grace quickly after winning back-to-back league titles in S1. Every year, they spend big to strengthen their roster, every year they say this is their best chance to return to the ranks of top teams, and every year they finish at the bottom.

After winning yet another runner-up title, Wei Luning had a lapse in judgment. He turned down an offer from another team that had made the top four last season and went to WTK instead.

Then he saw WTK's new lineup for this year:

Jungler Koi, TGC's one-trick specialist. If he gets his signature pick, it's a one-sided stomp. Ban it, and he might as well retire on the spot.

Top laner Mist, known as the KDA Guardian. Five years into his career, he doesn't have many standout moments, but there's no shortage of clips of him selling out his teammates.

Support Healer was demolished 0-13 in his debut year. He debuted and immediately got sent to watch from the water cooler. He's been warming the bench for two years and can't even get into scrims. He's been living off his base salary.

Head coach Dawn was once a championship-winning coach, but he won that title by leaving for a rival region and beating his home region. Everyone curses his whole family, and he's universally reviled.

And the last player...

Mid laner Miracle.

Well, his skills are decent, but Wei Luning used to have a thing with him. Right now, they're avoiding each other across the entire league.

Wei Luning: "..." This team is obviously doomed.

Oh, right. He's a perennial runner-up too.

So he must have had a lapse in judgment when he joined WTK.

Chen Anlai, ID Miracle, debuted as a runner-up. His results have gotten worse every year, and this year he ended up at WTK.

Seeing the team roster, Chen Anlai closed his eyes in despair and accepted reality, preparing for yet another year of being knocked out in the round of sixteen.

They still didn't have a marksman. He really wanted to see which idiot would join this busted team.

Tranquil and Miracle, the BHC duo of prodigy mid-and-marksman players back in the day, were so close they could share a pair of pants. Who didn't ship them in S4?

But after Wei Luning left for DK to improve his results, the two parted on bad terms. From then on, they were like fire and water. They visibly avoided each other on camera, and hadn't interacted at all in private for years. Their CP was declared dead, leaving countless fans heartbroken.

At this point, WTK's results no longer mattered. Everyone was watching WTK's Weibo, waiting for the day news broke that the players had started beating each other up.

They never did. The two weren't exactly interacting much, but at least they got along. Meanwhile, WTK, a team no one believed in, steadily climbed the rankings and eventually stood on the highest stage of the global finals.

Other teams had mid-jungle synergy or jungle-support synergy. Their team had mid-marksman synergy and coordination. Together with their three other teammates, they stumbled their way to lifting the championship trophy.

Only then did everyone remember that BHC's mid-and-marksman duo had been more than just a name.

What no one knew was that on the very first night, Chen Anlai had cornered Wei Luning outside the dorm room. Leaning against the door with red-rimmed eyes, he asked, "Wei Luning, now that we're both carries on the same team, we don't have to avoid each other anymore, right? Can we get back together?"
