Akashi Seijuro first met Inukawa Misaki when he was five.
At the time, his father told him that she was the Inukawa family's current hidden blade, and would be the most obedient dog and sharpest blade at his command.
The girl, rolling in the mud, raised her expressionless face. Her eyes belonged to a fearless wolfdog, and held not a trace of loyalty.
He watched her get up before dawn and practice martial arts late into the night to fulfill her duty as his bodyguard. She didn't utter a sound even when she broke her arm.
He watched her study difficult foreign languages and proper ladylike manners, while also practicing how to kill with a single blow.
He watched her try all sorts of things she wasn't good at just to keep up with him.
Stumbling all the way, she was always running toward him.
He thought Inukawa Misaki would grow to hate him, but instead she grew into a little dog who smelled of sunshine.
How interesting.
