My Boss Is a Dog

Tao Mingxi joins a well-known company as an assistant to the CEO.

Only after starting work does he discover that the CEO is fussy and demanding. On his first day, he accidentally calls his boss by the wrong surname, making the atmosphere painfully awkward. His boss promptly labels him “an illiterate who somehow got hired,” and from then on, nitpicks everything he does and never gives him a kind word.

Every day at work feels like a prison sentence to Tao Mingxi, but the salary is just too good.

He grits his teeth and puts up with it.

One night, after working late, Tao Mingxi finds an injured dog on his way home. Unable to leave it shivering by the roadside, he takes it home, treats its wounds, and gives it a bath and a good clean. It turns out to be a long-haired German Shepherd.

The German Shepherd is majestic and handsome, with sleek black-and-brown fur. When it sits, its posture is relaxed yet full of strength, and its pointed ears stand alert.

But that haughty, appraising gaze always makes Tao Mingxi think of his boss, and then of how hard he is to please. A nameless fury rises in Tao Mingxi.

Then, in an instant, Tao Mingxi calms down and pats his own face.

It must be my imagination.

There’s no way my boss could be a dog, right? :)

The dog seems to be lost, but after a long search, Tao Mingxi still can’t find its owner. With no other option, he decides to look after it for now.

This German Shepherd is difficult to please too, but that’s all right. Dogs are humanity’s best friends, and he can put up with a fluffy little cutie’s bad moods.

As time passes, Tao Mingxi grows closer to the dog.

When he’s happy, he pulls the dog into a waltz.

When he’s unhappy, he rambles to the dog about how awful his boss is, and how he’d love to stuff him down the toilet and flush him away.

Before going to work each day, he also gives the dog a big, happy cuddle and says sweetly, “Baby, Daddy’s going to work. Be a good boy at home today!”

With the dog by his side, Tao Mingxi finds that even working puts him in a much better mood.

Tao Mingxi thinks his boss has been acting stranger and stranger lately.

Outside of work, his boss often sneaks glances at him with a look Tao Mingxi can’t quite figure out, then pretends nothing happened and looks away when he’s caught.

When Tao Mingxi reaches out, his boss leans his face into his palm.

When Tao Mingxi is picking out treats for the dog at home, his boss suddenly cuts in to say that one doesn’t taste good and he should get a different kind. He even suggests buying extra.

Tao Mingxi finds it strange, but doesn’t think much of it. He assumes his boss has a pet too.

Then one day, Tao Mingxi forgets something at work and hurries back. He opens the door and sees his boss, Chou Que, frantically getting dressed in a suit and tie, with the fluffy pointed ears he’s been petting countless times and a powerful tail

And wearing the dog tag he had custom-made for his German Shepherd.

Their eyes meet, and both of them freeze.

Tao Mingxi’s pupils shake with shock.

The dog of a boss he’s cursed countless times really is a dog?!
