The Third Year of Being Forced into a Relationship

[He wrapped her in the finest fur, but she saw only a gilded cage]

The day the capital fell, the new king, Helian Zhao, seized Princess Baoling, who had humiliated him.

When he was a hostage as a child, that radiant, moonlike princess had joined a group of powerful nobles in stepping on his broken leg, jeering and mocking him.

Ten years passed in a flash. The once-tolerant young commander swept his cavalry across the land. The fallen princess, fair as snow and vicious at heart, did not deserve to remain in the palace, so he kept her hidden in a private residence.

In the first year, she hurled every vile insult at him. He used a few tricks to make her kneel.

In the second year, she tried to escape and then to take her own life. He tightened his grip, forcing her to submit.

In the third year, she finally bowed her proud head and willingly became his canary. He, meanwhile, had lost interest. He granted her a title and let her bear his child, then handed the child over to a good person to raise properly, lest they take after their domineering mother.
