[A vindictive, rakish top x a refined, fallen beauty bottom]
Yu Ziyu, Marquis of Mingzheng, made a name for himself at a young age. With the elegance of a crane and the strength of a pine, he routed the Northern Di with his spear. Only Pei She could trade blows with him as an equal.
Pei She was notorious for his cruelty, yet he often came off worse against Yu Ziyu, so the two became deeply entangled.
Rather than have Pei She kill Yu Ziyu, the emperor, wary of Yu Ziyu's power and influence, stripped him of his authority.
The favored child of heaven became a cripple overnight. The mad dog Pei She bit him first, and never let go again.
A cold marquis and a charming grand commandant? (Not really.)

An alternate-history setting mixing up different dynasties. It's only for reference, so don't read too much into it.
The title and theme are inspired by “Gazing Toward the Palace Watchtower” by Qi Jiguang of the Ming dynasty. The full poem reads: “Ten years I fought through seas of cold, a lone minister gazing toward the emperor's throne. The frost is nothing but the blood within my heart, scattered across a thousand peaks to dye autumn leaves red.”
Theme: The frost is nothing but the blood within my heart, scattered across a thousand peaks to dye autumn leaves red
