The Cold Scent of the Golden Incense Burner

Zhen Niang was the adopted daughter of the Dowager Consort.

She had been born to a palace maid, and no one knew who her parents were. The Dowager Consort took pity on her and kept her by her side as she grew up.

She was exceptionally beautiful, but she couldn't speak. She spent her days following the Dowager Consort with her head bowed, like a small, gentle shadow.

Everyone sighed: beautiful, yes, but what a pity she was mute.

The Dowager Consort promised that once she passed away, she would let Zhen Niang leave the palace.

Zhen Niang had known since childhood that her status was unusual and that people looked down on her. She was also so beautiful. If she wanted to survive in the palace, she could only be obedient and silent, living like a shadow.

She did as she was told, curling up beside the Dowager Consort, never speaking, and quietly making her way through life.

But she had never imagined that she would cross paths with that nobleman.

He was the most powerful man under heaven.

The Son of Heaven.

Soaked in rain, his expression dark, he strode straight into her little palace chamber, seized her trembling nape, ignored her struggles, and pressed his palm against her slightly rounded belly.

His voice was cold and cruel, with the metallic sweetness of blood in it. "Zhen Niang, how dare you get rid of My child?"
