How to Divide Property After a Breakup

After arguing all night, Chen Yi and I broke up.

Our five-year relationship ended just like that, and we started dividing up our belongings.

From the big things, like furniture, appliances, and our rental apartment, to the little things, like Jellycat, pots, and bowls, we had to split every last item fairly.

I couldn't bear to part with him, but I couldn't bring myself to ask him to stay either. After all, I was the one who'd suggested breaking up.

So I started acting unreasonable.

The router, the TV batteries, the robot vacuum... I wouldn't let him have a single thing.

"Not even the dog!" I clung desperately to the dachshund's leg, stuffing things into a suitcase as I sang, "Leave our dog behind, whether it's useful or not."

Chen Yi laughed in exasperation. He crouched down and looked me in the eye. "What if she has no one to spoil her from now on?"

Happy ending. A bickering couple.
