Cold and Heartless

The Three Realms all know that Pei Shuran, heir to the demon clan, defied the Demon Emperor and endured thirty-six bolts of heavenly lightning just to marry a mortal woman.

His devotion is incurable.

Too bad Sheng Ting has never felt the slightest affection for her husband.

Pei Shuran unfurls his nine fox tails to entice her. She asks, tongue-tied, "How much is one of those tails worth?"

Sheng Ting loves money.

She agreed to marry Pei Shuran because his betrothal gifts were lavish beyond belief.

So when someone offered her even more money in exchange for Pei Shuran's life, she readily agreed.

But she was a mortal girl, and it was only natural that her first assassination attempt would go wrong.

Pei Shuran was gravely wounded. Sheng Ting packed up and fled in the middle of the night.

When they meet again, Sheng Ting borrows the body of a little demon and approaches her former husband as an apprentice apothecary.

She remembers her past, remembers that she is a goddess, and remembers her important mission: to kill Pei Shuran.

Everyone knows that Pei Shuran was wounded by his wife and is heartbroken, and that he needs to take medicine every day.

Sheng Ting watches Pei Shuran weep over her portrait all day and suddenly feels a little guilty.

Then she notices the forceful character for "death" written on the back of the portrait by Pei Shuran.

She gently strokes the scroll and discovers that he wrote it long ago, on the night they married.
