Everyone in their circle knew that the Ying family had an illegitimate son they kept hidden away. The poor thing had been born with white hair and looked like a monster. He was far too mild-mannered, and anyone could take a few kicks at him.
At a birthday party, the Ying family's second son slammed a cake onto his head in front of everyone, sending the guests into an uproar of laughter.
The Ying family's eldest son had a childhood friend adored by everyone, whom he was also in love with. In the friend's defense, he verbally abused the illegitimate son and treated him as worthless.
Faced with all this, Ying Fusang seemed unable to feel the malice. He silently endured the same life, day after day.
Until the moment he was kidnapped, forced to choose between two people, and thrown into the sea...
The most hated man remembered.
He had been forced to work as the King of Hell for seven hundred years. To escape his dead-end job, he deliberately used a forbidden technique and got fired. As punishment, he was sent to undergo this tribulation.
At death's door, Ying Fusang was rescued by his "dead" ex-boyfriend of five hundred years, only to discover that he would have to keep living for a while longer.
Thinking back over everything that had happened in the past decade or so, Ying Fusang smiled brightly. "Fine."
And so everyone discovered that the punching bag who had escaped death had suddenly stopped taking their abuse.
His eldest brother, dying in a pit after an avalanche, begged him for help. Ying Fusang stood at the edge of the pit, looking down at him.
After realizing he had been used by the universally adored guy, his second brother came to his senses and tried to make peace by throwing Ying Fusang a birthday party. Ying Fusang picked up a cake and slapped it into his face, then asked with a smile, "Does it taste good?"
His calculating birth mother tried everything to make amends and beg for forgiveness, but Ying Fusang treated her like a stranger.
After he finally started hitting back and stopped letting anyone walk all over him, the people who once thought even looking at him was filthy changed their tune. They reminisced about the past and repented.
When his long-standing ailments finally flared up, those people gathered around Ying Fusang's hospital bed. His eldest and second brothers, who had once despised him, knelt beside him with red eyes, clutching his clothes and begging him to live. Ying Fusang lifted his arm...and brushed their hands away.
On the day he was about to return to his proper place, those people saw that modern medicine was powerless. They actually sought out a spirit medium and all left their bodies to visit the underworld, just to beg for his return.
Ying Fusang came back wearing his crown and robes. Looking at the crowd blocking the entrance to the Hall of the King of Hell, he ignored their stunned, trembling expressions, yawned, and drawled, "Move aside. You're in the way."
A seemingly easygoing shou who's actually bad-tempered × a gentle, manipulative gong who knows how to play the victim
Ghost god × God of Matchmaking
Reader's guide:
1. Both leads are sexually inexperienced. One-on-one, happy ending. Regarding why the gong and shou broke up: this is not a genuine substitute romance, nor is it a story where the characters refuse to communicate and create angst for themselves. Read on to find out the actual reason.
2. Neither lead is perfect. The shou is not a conventional "good person." Readers with extreme character preferences may want to skip this.
3. The underworld and related lore are almost entirely made up by the author. Please don't overanalyze it.
4. This novel has a side couple!! Everything serves the main plot, though, and the side couple gets very little page time.
5. The shou is in his final year of high school at the beginning. The story mostly follows chronological order, with school life and memories of ancient times from a century ago.
---Here's the next novel I'm previewing---
Will I Die If I Don't Spoil It?
A virus app appeared on Lu Rongjia's phone, and he couldn't delete it.
Opening the app brought up an ongoing mystery novel with a thrilling, tightly woven plot...
It would be even better if he weren't the first cannon-fodder character destined to be killed by the serial killer:)
Since the villain, who hadn't completely turned evil yet, attended the same school, Lu Rongjia decided to keep his distance and avoid any interaction at all costs, so he wouldn't meet his inevitable end.
But the next day, by sheer coincidence, he ended up on the same competition team as Xi Yilin.
Lu: It's fine. I can still keep my head down.
But the next day, he accidentally sent Xi Yilin the message he'd drafted to quit the team.
Lu: It's fine. I can still keep my head down.
But the next day, the team leader assigned him to conduct research alone with Xi Yilin.
Lu: It's fi... /jumps up and shouts no!
Everyone stared at him in confusion, while the future villain regarded him with a faintly curious look.
"..."
Lu Rongjia sat back down.
-
Xi Yilin had recently noticed someone interesting.
The other guy trembled all over whenever he saw Xi Yilin, and would occasionally blurt out nonsensical things. But after a certain day, he suddenly started approaching him on his own. Xi Yilin was used to this kind of cautious, suspiciously motivated behavior.
But Lu Rongjia was different. He made no attempt to hide his intentions.
Under the influence of alcohol, his eyes shone and his cheeks were flushed. He went on and on praising Xi Yilin, his admiration unmistakable.
Perhaps he couldn't bear to let go of this sincere affection, untouched by ulterior motives. Xi Yilin constantly restrained the dark, growing possessiveness beneath his pure white mask, struggling to remain the upright gentleman Lu Rongjia saw him as.
What was wrong with keeping up the act? As long as the sun kept shining on him.
Until he opened Lu Rongjia's diary, titled The Great Escape and Survival Plan.

A cool, calculating gong × a sunny, cheerful shou
