[The setting may change before the story officially begins]
In May 2014, 21-year-old Lu Jinye reaches the summit of the world for the first time. But on his way down, he is caught in a sudden blizzard. Starved of oxygen, suffering from snow blindness and high-altitude cerebral edema, he believes he will die on Everest.
When he wakes again, Lu Jinye is lying in a tent at base camp. His guide tells him that a female climber passing by on her way up gave up her summit attempt and helped rescue him.
His rescuer is Cheng Shiye, a documentary director. To make up for the loss he caused her, Lu Jinye plans to travel with her to Qiangtang and help her finish filming her movie.
During their 32 days crossing the uninhabited wilderness of Qiangtang, they kiss beneath the Milky Way and lie together beneath the open sky, with the glaciers and snowy mountains as witnesses and the stars as their candles.
After leaving Lhasa, Lu Jinye returns to the city, but he can no longer reach Cheng Shiye, and the film is not released as scheduled.
Five years later, at a film launch, Lu Jinye sees once again the face that has appeared in his dreams countless times.
But Cheng Shiye treats him like a stranger, wearing a polite, distant smile.
It's as if the month in the wilderness was a dream he imagined while sick on Everest.
After the launch, he returns to his hotel room in a daze, only to receive a text from an unknown number.
A three-hour video, already edited, is sent to his email.
It is a record of their romantic moments, secretly filmed by him with another camera.
The sender leaves a message: Mr. Lu, you left your camera in my car.
