[Saving this early work here for the record] [Written early on during university, all about the premise, a standalone story in a parallel world] [In short, a passionate, over-the-top story about how a strong youth makes a strong nation]
In the fourth year of Taishi, during the Great Zhou dynasty, the northern border city of Yunzhou was locked in a bloody battle between Meng Wenwei, General Who Pacifies the North, and the desert tribes' generals Murong Ce and Dugu Li. Meng Wenwei was struck by a stray arrow, devastating the army's morale. He could only hold out in Yunzhou, unable to advance. At this critical moment, Meng Wenwei's son, Meng Xizhou, who was still in the capital Chang'an, volunteered to go to war in his father's place.
Meng Xizhou had never served in the army, and the emperor was still hesitating. But just a few days later, word of victory arrived from the front: Murong Ce and Dugu Li had surrendered to Great Zhou along with their desert tribes. The court officials were finally relieved. With the two fiercest tribes of the northern desert having surrendered, it seemed there would be no more major battles.
Meng Wenwei was badly wounded and old, and could no longer guard the border. The emperor therefore ordered Meng Xizhou to temporarily take over as commander and assume his post at once, while Meng Wenwei returned to Chang'an to recuperate. The Meng Army was a force whose soldiers had been recruited by the Meng clan for generations, loyal to their country. If Meng Xizhou took up his post, he would surely reassure the people of the region.
Why had Murong Ce defected? Meng Xizhou couldn't make sense of it. But peace had finally come, and that was a good thing. The young general Meng, born and raised in Chang'an, was about to join the army and serve his country, heading for the place he had long yearned to see.
He had been waiting for this day for a long time.
Tips:
1. Very passionate and over-the-top. The author was obsessed with all kinds of over-the-top animated series during university.
2. It's also quite short, since it was the author's first book and a way to practice finishing a story.
3. It's equally lighthearted, with an emphasis on the over-the-top premise.
4. If anyone likes it, well, that's rather embarrassing (hides face and runs away). Those of you who've made it this far are kindred spirits. Wishing you all the best in everything!
