After transmigrating into a book, Tan Ci became bound to a System. Once she won over the villain Ji Xingyu, she could go home. After Tan Ci died, Ji Xingyu slaughtered the true culprits to comfort his beloved's spirit. He built a shrine for her, sculpted a golden statue in her likeness, and sought every kind of magic to bring her back, all to no avail. In the end, he followed Tan Ci in death.

Bodhisattvas delight in the True Dharma and love it as the Dharma; ordinary people crave the five desires and love them as desire. Those who crave desire are insatiable, like hungry ghosts, and this is therefore also called the love of hungry ghosts. [1]

Ji Xingyu had considered killing Tan Ci, but never imagined that he himself was trapped in the love of desire, nor that she would die saving him. He cried only three times in his life: the first when Tan Ci died, the second when Tan Ci came back to life, and the third when Tan Ci told him plainly that she was leaving him to go home.

When Tan Ci tried to leave, Ji Xingyu used a forbidden art to trap her, burning up his lifespan until blood poured from his seven orifices. Countless black tentacles writhed wildly, but he said, one word at a time, "No one in this world has more right than I do to ask you to stay."

Even with my heart as venomous as a snake's, I am still the one most suited to you.

His life was full of hardship, and he was lowborn and powerless. Though he did not believe in gods or Buddhas, he had still prayed for the heavens to open their eyes and the Bodhisattva to lower her gaze.

1. None of those present when the people mentioned in the blurb were killed are innocent, and the male lead did not slaughter indiscriminately. The female lead transmigrated into the book with her body; she did not possess the original body.

2. There is another reason the male lead speaks cruelly after seeing the progress bar. After the female lead fakes her death for the first time, the male lead kills himself. I originally planned for him to seal himself away, but then thought that a lovesick man like him would immediately follow her in death.

3. The female lead will go home. Her reason outweighs her feelings. The male lead is a genuine obsessive yandere. Later on, he'll use every underhanded means at his disposal to keep her, and his madness will reach a new level. If that makes you uncomfortable, please stop reading.
