But one night, on a whim, she logs in and catches the young clan leader executing traitors.

Chao Yun’s tone is icy, utterly unlike her usual sweet and obedient self.

At her command, the executioner brings down their blade. Bai Xi immediately closes her eyes.

At the several heavy thuds that follow, she can’t stop herself from trembling. When she opens her eyes again, Chao Yun is less than an inch away.

“This is what you taught me, Teacher: a ruler must be decisive in killing.”

Chao Yun’s eyes are cold and glinting. Bai Xi can’t help stepping back, but her legs give way and she’s about to fall when a thick, slick, slimy thing coils around her.

Bai Xi looks down despite her fear. In the moonlight, she sees a green snake tail wrapped tightly around her. She faints before she can catch her breath.

When she opens her eyes again, she is wearing a bright red wedding gown, and Chao Yun is sitting beside her, eyes sparkling as she smiles brightly. “Priestess, you belong to me now.”

At the same time, the wailing of several old people drifts in from outside.

“Clan leader, you mustn’t! The priestess is a goddess. You must not defile her!”

“Priestess, wake up! If you don’t wake up, you’ll lose your virtue!”

“You’ll be violating our ancestral teachings! Violating our ancestral teachings!”

Bai Xi looks at Chao Yun. Her expression grows darker, then she throws herself forward without hesitation, as if she intends to consummate the marriage before anything else.

But the young clan leader has no experience in this, and doesn’t know what she’s doing.

Bai Xi sighs helplessly and takes the lead.

The Yun Chao tribe is made up entirely of women, and they reproduce using spirit spring water.

The morning after their wedding night, while Bai Xi is still asleep after a busy night, Chao Yun runs off early to fetch a whole bucket of spirit spring water.

Bai Xi is jolted fully awake by a sharp sting in her fingertip.

Chao Yun has bitten her finger. She looks fiercely determined. “There’s one more step. I’ll do whatever it takes to keep you here.”
