Also known as I Should Have Remembered You
The original plan was to keep it firmly platonic, but the author is no longer so sure. Apologies if this is a dealbreaker. So, the author is going to write them having sex [fist-bump]

Those nights, he used to ask himself: Had life been too hard all these years?
But perhaps there was another self inside him, someone who could comfort him and keep him warm.
1.
More than half of Lu Yaoqing's cultivation suddenly vanished into thin air. He had to find the evil spirit that stole it from him and tear it limb from limb!
Along the way, he met Lu Wen, who had ulterior motives and was a brilliant actor, yet didn't really want to keep pretending all the time. He would sometimes let his guard slip, while thinking Lu Yaoqing was too much of a fool to notice his disguise.
Lu Wen was Lu Yaoqing's alternate personality, who had accidentally taken his cultivation without realizing it and then become a spirit.
But Lu Yaoqing could never guess Lu Wen's identity, so he began to suspect Lu Wen, who was being nice to him for no apparent reason.
As the misunderstanding grew worse, Lu Wen realized he couldn't keep pretending.
Lu Wen: Actually, I'm you!
Lu Yaoqing: Shameless evil spirit! You think I'll believe such a clumsy lie?
Lu Wen: I'm really not lying, hahaha.
2.
Later, Lu Yaoqing discovered that Lu Wen knew many "mysterious experts" in private. It really was useful to know people, because on their trips, Lu Wen could handle every problem they came across.
Lu Yaoqing: How do you know all of them?
Lu Wen: Haha... I just...
With a clatter, something fell. Lu Yaoqing "picked it up" and found a whole collection of secret identities belonging to Lu Wen, that big liar!
Lu Wen panicked. "Wait, I, I have my reasons!"
3.
Lu Wen wasn't a good person. He could admit that openly to anyone, but he didn't dare face Lu Yaoqing.
He was afraid Lu Yaoqing would be disappointed in him. He wasn't as gentle and kind as Lu Yaoqing believed. That gentleness was something he showed only to Lu Yaoqing.
In short, he still couldn't fully accept himself.
Just like Lu Yaoqing, who couldn't accept the past version of himself, so humble and insignificant, Lu Wen couldn't accept the brutality he displayed after years of pent-up hatred.
But in the end, they had to accept themselves completely, which meant accepting each other, too.
And when they were together, Lu Yaoqing no longer had to pretend to be aloof out of loneliness and low self-esteem. Lu Wen had no hatred left, only sweetness. As long as they stayed together, they could become good people without having to feel ashamed of themselves.

"I should have remembered you, because I made you remember me."
"You are the reason I exist. You never forgot me. You were just waiting for me to tell you."
