A little sweet treat~
A T-shirt for 39.88 yuan, shoes bought for 19.90 at a basement mall's clearance sale, and the beat-up backpack he had washed and carried for six years. Every day, he rode around showing off his old-fashioned black roadster. That was everyone's first impression of the campus heartthrob, Song Chujian.
And yet, this guy who made a point of keeping a low profile was spotted by his college roommate, Ji Ran, the day after classes began, driving a luxury car to squeeze into a cheap night-market food stall.
Cheap night-market food stall: location checks out.
Luxury car: owner may not check out.
After that day, Ji Ran kept seeing Song Chujian act stingy while casually letting his wealth show.
For instance, one day they were walking along when Song Chujian held out a whole row of yogurt drinks, each bottle with a straw jammed into it. He took a sip, then offered the row to Ji Ran. "Want a sip?"
Ji Ran looked disgusted. "No."
Song Chujian was curious. "Then why are you staring at me?"
Ji Ran gave him a cold look. "I'm admiring your generosity."
Song Chujian nodded. "Oh. Actually, I'm really poor."
Ji Ran rolled up his sleeve and pointed at his wrist, exasperated. "Take off the Rolex you're wearing before you say that!"
Another day, Song Chujian broke with tradition. Instead of riding his roadster, he drove a Rolls-Royce Phantom to school.
Ji Ran asked curiously, "Why aren't you riding your roadster today?"
Song Chujian: "Ding~ To unlock this question, you'll need to pay an inquiry fee of 50 cents. Would you like to pay?"
Ji Ran: "Seriously? You want to charge me 50 cents?"
Of course he did. On top of that, Song Chujian was as tightfisted as a penny-pinching miser over everyday little things, coming up with all sorts of ways to "charge" Ji Ran.
Ji Ran, up early brushing his teeth: "I'm out of toothpaste. Let me borrow some."
Song Chujian, brushing his teeth and speaking a little unclearly: "Sure. I'll put 50 cents on your tab."
Ji Ran's eyebrows twitched three times. "How much did you say?"
Song Chujian grinned. "I'll give you half off. 25 cents."
Ji Ran laughed in exasperation. "Can you get any stingier?"
Song Chujian beamed. "Want your big brother to stop being stingy? Easy. Get together with me, and you can manage my money."
Ji Ran: "Get lost!"
Later, Song Chujian watched Ji Ran walking ahead, unzipped his jacket, and examined it for a moment. Then he suddenly called out, "Ji Ran, come look at something cool."
Ji Ran turned around, eyeing him suspiciously. "What?"
Song Chujian grinned. "Come over and you'll see."
Ji Ran said coldly, "If you're messing with me, I'll beat you up later."
Song Chujian kept coaxing him. "I won't. Come on."
Ji Ran walked up to him and stopped, staring at his face. "Spit it out."
Song Chujian said, "Come a little closer. Look and see if there's something on me."
"What thing?" Ji Ran took a step forward, and the distance between them shrank in an instant. He examined Song Chujian's spotless white long-sleeved shirt closely. Suddenly, without warning, Song Chujian opened his arms and pulled him into an embrace.
He zipped up the jacket. Their two bodies, tucked inside it together, felt warm in the faint chill of early winter. Song Chujian said, "You wouldn't wear a jacket, so you'll just have to put up with walking back like this with me."
Ji Ran was so startled he felt as if he'd been struck by lightning. "Wait, dude, guys shouldn't be this close!"
Song Chujian: "So how much extra would one kiss cost?"
Ji Ran was dumbfounded. Huh? What happened to him being a penny-pincher?
One-on-one romance, a sweet love story.
A cheeky, dramatic gong who pretends to be poor x a straight roommate whose words say one thing while his body says another.
Song Chujian:
Being loved is a symbol,
ideals are a banner,
and I love your name.
Ji Ran:
Speak plainly.
Song Chujian:
I love you, hehe.
