The Mute Slave

He was the Empire's God of War, soon to wed a princess, with endless glory ahead of him.

She was the lowest and most wretched mute servant in the General's household, ugly and voiceless.

No one knew that she had once taken a fatal poisoned arrow for him, losing her voice for three years and her beauty forever.

On the eve of his wedding, he casually tossed her a plate of cold leftovers, treating her like trash.

He departed in splendor, while her old wounds reopened. She coughed up blood onto the food he had never once deigned to look at, then lay dying in a cold corner.
