In her twenty-five years of life, the thing Jiang Qidie regrets most is getting involved with Zong Ying.
After failing her college entrance exams in her senior year of high school, she moved into his home and became his older sister. Then came her panicked escape in the summer of her freshman year of college. She wrote off their two years of madness as a mistaken dream.
Five years later, they meet again. She keeps backing down, but Zong Ying has no intention of letting her go.
In the middle of her wedding to her boyfriend, Jiang Qidie goes to change into her reception dress. When the dressing-room door opens, she turns around, and the world fades into darkness in Zong Ying's eyes.
The candlelit room is dark, lush, and fragrant.
"Do you really have to marry him?" Gold dust from the wedding invitation clings to Zong Ying's fingertips. As they glide over her cheek, they leave a trace behind.
Jiang Qidie can't break free of the slender ribbons binding her wrists. All she can do is turn her face away and nod through her tears.
"You were so good to me back then... Why did you cruelly abandon me?" His voice is hoarse, and full of pain. "Five whole years, from studying abroad to coming back to work."
Behind Zong Ying, photos of her cover the entire wall, capturing her from an awkward girl to a mature woman. In storage boxes are the little things she casually threw away, love letters other people gave her...
"Teach me," he says, his eyes lowered as he looks at her. Suddenly, he grips her chin, his voice soft. "How is someone who's been abandoned supposed to live?"
Then he touches the tip of his nose to hers, tender as if soothing her. "Go out there now and tell him you're running away from the wedding, Big Sister."
