Story blurb:
"Divine Edge" is a full-dive game renowned for its variety, evolved from an earlier online game. From equipment builds in the early game to its highly customizable skills, it has become a favorite among many players.
There are plenty of dungeons to challenge, including beginner dungeons, five-player instances, and other group dungeons. Players face all kinds of bosses and monsters as they fight their way through, with each dungeon offering a different level of difficulty.
There are also online PvP battles across all sorts of maps, with players free to form their teams.
A canyon map strewn with meteorites.
An interstellar map where meteors rain down.
A snowy mountain map with icebergs that forcibly weaken your skills.
And more.
A national tournament is held every year. Jiang Yan placed second once and third once in the first two tournaments. Then this year, the game changed from an online game to a full-dive experience.
Just after one round of the national tournament ended, the full-dive game's closed beta invited players from numerous teams as well as solo players to take part.
Jiang Yan looked at the invitation to join the closed beta and immediately chose to enter the game.
Because it was a closed beta, all players entered anonymously.
The closed beta had a wide variety of dungeons. Since there weren't many players, even five-person dungeons could initially be entered alone. Others could join later, until the dungeon reached its player limit and entry was closed.
Jiang Yan looked at the dungeons of different levels before choosing a high-level one. He had only just entered when Gu Ci appeared at the entrance too.
As Xie Yun headed toward the first boss, he saw the corpses of small monsters scattered across the ground.
"Someone's in a high-level dungeon on the very first day?"
He had barely finished speaking when he reached the spot where the first boss appeared. The boss's enormous corpse lay on the ground, and standing on top of it was a male player in a red combat suit. He pulled his sword out of the corpse.
Turning toward Xie Yun, he wiped the boss's blood from his face and said with a smile:
"Want to team up?"
Those who entered the dungeon later made it all the way to the final boss without trouble. The monsters had been cleared out, leaving corpses everywhere.
Everyone fell silent for a few seconds and checked the player count above their heads.
They hadn't entered the wrong dungeon. Including them, there were exactly five players.
Jiang Yan had assumed the other player was just a solo player and figured it wouldn't hurt to bring him along for a dungeon run.
Xie Yun watched the damage-dealing DPS in front of him and fired an arrow at the small monster behind him that was about to attack Jiang Yan.
He smiled and replied, "Sure."
And later on...
In the game:
Jiang Yan and Xie Yun: "See the other team's leader? Pin them as your focus target, and when the fight starts, hit them as hard as you can!"
Teammates: "Yes, Captain!"
Outside the game:
Xie Yun hugged Jiang Yan and pleaded pitifully, "Baby, I got beaten up so badly today! You have to make it up to me."
Jiang Yan, held in place, wanted to curse.
"You were going all out when you beat me up this afternoon too!"
"Damn it, stop kissing me! Are you a dog? Bite more gently!"
The aloof, sharp-tongued, brutal DPS Jiang Yan vs. the flirtatious, brutal DPS Xie Yun, who begs his wife for cuddles every day.
Reader's guide:
1. The game design is inspired by real online games, with original elements added.
2. The story includes plenty of in-game content as well as modern-day life. The proportion of tournament content is still being worked out.
3. Logic isn't a priority. All the worldbuilding serves the story.
