Xuan Kai was the happiest child in the Great Xuan Dynasty.
His father, Prince Jing, had no other children, and his grandfather, Emperor Jianyuan, had no other grandchildren. From the day he was born, he grew up doted on by his elders.
When he was three, his imperial grandfather passed away, leaving the throne to his father with his dying breath.
As the only child in the imperial family, Xuan Kai naturally became crown prince.
During the investiture ceremony, Xuan Kai noticed red, yellow, and green colors above the heads of his father, the empress, the ministers, and the palace servants. Some of them also had bold black text above their heads.
Xuan Kai observes in secret.jpg
Grand Tutor Cui, in red, was “a historian from eight hundred years in the future.” Minister Luo, also in red, was “an incorruptible official from the previous dynasty.” General Fang, in yellow, was “a war god from the apocalypse.”
Xuan Kai looked at his beloved imperial father. His father was green and labeled “tyrant.”
His father taught him to read and write, played cricket with him, and even let him ride on his back. How could he be a tyrant?
Unconvinced, Xuan Kai looked in the mirror, only to see four huge characters above his own head: “Tyrant who destroys the dynasty.”
Xuan Kai: Σ( ° △ °|||) Help! I don't wanna be a tyrant!

After checking several times, Xuan Kai realized that red meant enemy, yellow meant neutral, and green meant ally.
Xuan Kai didn't want to be a tyrant, much less the ruler who brought about the dynasty's fall.
He did his best to get his act together, supervising his father as he reviewed memorials and handled government affairs every day. He aimed to recruit all the people with bold text and special identities above their heads, making the best possible use of their talents!
The task of increasing crop yields went to Grand Tutor Cui, building irrigation works to Minister Luo, constructing roads to Vice Minister Jiang, eradicating smallpox to Imperial Physician Zhang, and expanding the empire's borders to General Fang...
Years later, Emperor Yongjia abdicated, and Xuan Kai ascended the throne.
He rubbed his hands together, ready to accomplish great things and prove to the world that he was no “tyrant who destroys the dynasty.”
But he discovered that every official in his court was a green ally, high-yield crops filled the granaries, firearms and cavalry were invincible, the Great Xuan Dynasty had doubled in size, and the people lived in peace and prosperity. They all praised him as a wise ruler.
Xuan Kai: Huh?

After transmigrating to the Great Xuan Dynasty, a historical era rife with tyrants, Cui Guanhui was devastated.
He had transmigrated as a Grand Tutor who would be tortured to death by dismemberment after failing to persuade Emperor Jianyuan. Cui Guanhui was twice as devastated.
Being executed by dismemberment sounded terrifying. Should he just start a rebellion instead?
But before he could put that plan into action, Emperor Jianyuan died, and Emperor Yongjia took the throne.
The good news: One tyrant was dead.
The bad news: An even more incompetent one had arrived.
The worse news: Emperor Yongjia wasn't the most incompetent one. Crown Prince Xuan Kai was.
Cui Guanhui: ...
The crown prince had been appointed, and Cui Guanhui was ordered to tutor him.
Before tutoring him: The crown prince is unruly and impossible to teach.
After tutoring him: The crown prince may sleep in class, get distracted, and play with grasshoppers, but he calls me Tutor Cui-Cui :P
