A Green Mile Romance

Wen Zhaolu was a proud, beautiful perfectionist and singer. After his lover died, he lost his voice, his freedom, his soul, and half his life, one after another. He wanted to blaze like fireworks before falling, then die with a flourish. But fate forced him to cling to life, battered and scarred, until he became a beggar who was still beautiful but had lost every shred of dignity.

He gave up on himself completely. To pay off his senior brother’s debts, he chose to live with a fabulously wealthy old man. The old man had riches beyond measure, yet was as quiet and old-fashioned as a statue. Every day, he tutored children in math, bought sandwiches on the street, and adopted cats and dogs he found by the roadside, along with blue whales from the sea.

The old man fed and clothed him, helped treat his voice, and got him back onstage to sing, but never laid a finger on him.

Oh, and the old man had a well-known name: the God of Death.

Wen Zhaolu (little bird) X Yin Bulian (God of Death)

An end-of-the-world fairy tale from the 35th century, about a beautiful little green bird who can turn into a human and a melancholy old God of Death who pretends to be human
