# Choose Your Assassin #
# Oh no, I matched with my real wife #
Qin Yu is a first-rank Gold-Clad assassin of the Tianyi Pavilion. She is ordered to infiltrate their rival, the Misty Rain Tower, as a spy. The reward for completing the job is a thousand taels of gold.
Her very first mission is to take another woman's place in marriage to the lame Prince Jing for six months, then quietly poison him to death without anyone being the wiser.
On their wedding night, when she sees her "husband," she is stunned. Isn't he the master of the Misty Rain Tower? Is he really going this far just to test a spy?
"You..."
The man rolls in in a wheelchair, beaming, and calls her "Qingqing" the moment he opens his mouth.
She is so frightened she almost drops to her knees to beg forgiveness.
For the sake of her life and her pocket money, she plays along.
She dotes on him and attends to his every need... resorting to every means at her disposal:
Rumor has it Prince Jing likes men, so she waves her hand and has twenty handsome young attendants wait on him around the clock.
In the end, those twenty attendants are assigned to the maids in her courtyard. The maids retire early, and each receives a bigger reward than she does.
Qin Yu: You can't play me like this!
Prince Jing: I belong to you, so why do you care about that?
Later, the legitimate princess changes her mind and offers double the fee to take her place back. Qin Yu naturally can't get what she wants. That Prince Jing is such a terrible man. For half a year, he has tormented her until she has nearly died over and over.
The fake heiress, Shen Ci, is reborn. She knows Prince Jing will suffer a leg injury that leaves him unable to walk, making her live as a widow in all but name for the rest of her life.
In this life, she hires assassins from both sides at great expense, determined to have him killed.
Several months later, when she goes to pay the deposit, she meets one of the assassins. The woman's features look just like those of the real Shen Ci.
Meanwhile, Prince Jing's condition improves, so she cancels the deal and offers Qin Yu double the gold to disappear...
The last person Lu Jiayu sees before being trapped in the Southern Borderlands is his cousin. She is arrogant and ill-mannered, yet the only one to visit him before he leaves.
"The world's toughest protective armor. I spent all my savings on it. I've been scrimping and saving while I wait for you to come back and marry me."
She loves money more than anything. Usually, she even hates letting him use so much as one of her needles.
And it is this very armor that keeps him safe for years.
Held hostage in the Southern Borderlands for years, he keeps his leg injury hidden from everyone. Later, an accident leaves his leg truly crippled after it is badly wounded by bandits.
How could someone like him still be worthy of her?
Unexpectedly, she travels thousands of miles to marry him. He humiliates her by using a rooster in the wedding ceremony, but she remains as devoted as ever.
His leg is healed because of her, too. She treats him so well that he would gladly do anything for her. But one day, she leaves.
An impostor actually pretends to be her, then turns around and accuses her instead...
Bonus scene:
Qin Yu finishes her mission and decides to take a vacation for herself, only to be forced back to work.
"We've called a temporary truce with the Misty Rain Tower. I've got a major assignment for you: find Prince Jing's consort."
Grinding her teeth, she goes to look for Shen Ci. She climbs onto a roof and sees Shen Ci openly cheating on Lu Jiayu.
"Seeing that bastard Lu get what's coming to him is so satisfying."
"Did it satisfy you?"
"You bet."
She turns her head. It's Lu Jiayu.
"I... I'm an impostor."
She kicks off and tries to escape.
Lu Jiayu grabs her, and they roll across the rooftop.
"My leg may have been lame, but I was never blind."
[Reader's Guide]
1. Both leads have only ever been with each other.
2. This is not a household power-struggle story. There is a little political intrigue and a little wuxia, but very, very little. Everything serves the romance.
3. The heroine swears like a sailor. She's a cold-faced rogue, so enter at your own discretion.
4. In Chapter Four, the male lead's side has a man use a prop to stab another man to frame the heroine's faction. This is necessary for the plot and is not BL.
5. Updated every other day. The text has been revised to prevent piracy.
6. Saving the setting details here, mainly because I'm worried I'll forget them myself. Readers who don't know the plot may feel dizzy reading this.
Tianyi Pavilion ranks: Pavilion Master - Elders - First-Rank Gold-Clad (assassins) - Second-Rank Purple-Clad (bodyguards) - Third-Rank Green-Clad (gu masters) - Fourth-Rank Red-Clad (ghost hands) - Fifth-Rank Black-Clad (child detectives)
The Five Tigers of Tianyi:
Assassin Qin Yu, age 20, the greatest swordswoman, loves money, a cold-faced rogue, and swears a lot.
Bodyguard Yin Yue, age 21, the greatest knife-wielder, a smiling fox, with a gentle blade.
Gu master Luo Shi, age 18, an expert in gu, gentle and mild-mannered, with a slightly obsessive streak.
Ghost hand Long Yuan, age 20, from a family of thieves, lecherous, and afraid to die.
Child detective Fang Jiuyi, age 8, a business prodigy who trades while gathering intelligence, level-headed and the brains of the group.
PS: Each has their own kind of foolishness. "Tiger" doesn't just refer to strength. The supporting characters mentioned here are all on the heroine's side. The author isn't good at writing the male lead's career, so the whole story has a humorous tone.
