Ever since Song Wu misjudged someone and let a seemingly innocent college boy swindle him out of the last of his money, his luck seemed to hit rock bottom and then plummet even further.
He started attracting evil spirits.
And so he began spending his nights being pinned down by ghosts in his dreams.
After getting rid of countless ghosts who came to pin him down, Song Wu could take no more. He sought help from Director Jiang of the city's Anomalous Affairs Department, the agency responsible for paranormal matters.
Director Jiang pointed him toward a solution.
He told him to ask a god to keep the ghosts at bay.
Ask a god?
These days, whether you wanted a righteous god or a wicked one, summoning one would cost you at least half your life.
"Director Jiang, are you trying to sell me off as a sacrifice?"
Director Jiang kicked him and tossed him an address.
"I'm telling you to go ask a living immortal!"
Meng Lian was known in their line of work as a "living immortal."
Song Wu found the living immortal's home in an old apartment building.
At the time, the living immortal was making himself a meal, noisily chewing on instant noodles that had been soaked to just the right texture. The sound was like someone crunching bones.
When he saw Song Wu, his eyes lit up with a green glow. He stared at him and murmured, "You smell delicious."
Song Wu: "Sorry, just passing by!"
