My Ex-Husband, Who Had a Child with His Concubine, Says He Loves Me

After ascending the throne, the empress issued a decree making monogamy the law throughout the Great Ye dynasty. Every man was allowed only one wife. Anyone who kept three wives or four concubines would have to pay a fine or go to jail.

My husband is an academian at the Hanlin Academy. Our household has only me, his principal wife, and Concubine Bai. He treats me with nothing but respect, while the concubine is his childhood sweetheart. They are perfectly in tune with each other, and have a son together.

Though I am his principal wife, I have borne no children. To keep my husband, Concubine Bai, and their child together as a family, I choose to leave.

To my surprise, my husband, who doesn't love me, refuses to let me go.

His eyes red, he asks me, "Which of your eyes saw me liking Concubine Bai?"

I tilt my head and look at him. "Both of them."
