The Tavern Belle

Xie Xingyun was steady, content, and good at finding joy in life.

So even when her family suddenly fell into decline, she calmly counted the few silver coins she had left and set up a portable wonton stall on the edge of the village.

Her days were peaceful. Every now and then, a little wine and a bit of meat were enough to fill her stomach.

Who would have thought that the Xie family, whose generations had been steeped in books, would produce an exceptional business talent in her?

The little stall run by Xie Xingyun grew more and more popular. Even her cousin, who had once looked down on her while devoting himself to the imperial examinations, swallowed his pride and asked her for a loan.

Xie Xingyun gave him every last coin she had saved over the years. She packed her things, hitched up her handcart, and headed north to the capital.

She had already worked it all out. Prices were high in the capital, good food was scarce, and the customers were generous. She planned to seize the opportunity and open a bustling little tavern there.
