After a radiation disaster, humanity fled underground.
The underground cities were named "Arks," but one place was excluded: District One, the abandoned land.
Everyone at the research institute knew that Lin Zhilu, chief engineer of the "Return to the Firmament" project, was at odds with Feng Wujiao, the founder of the underground city. But supposedly, the two had once been very close as adoptive father and daughter.
After another argument, Lin Zhilu stormed out and opened a prosthetics clinic in District One. Business was dismal, and nobody came.
Someone sneered, "What kind of idiot opens a prosthetics clinic in this godforsaken place?"
But Lin Zhilu spent her days feeding stray cats, teasing dogs, and scavenging trash, perfectly content.
Then a death notice shattered that peaceful life.
News traveled slowly in District One, and by the time Lin Zhilu heard that Feng Wujiao had died, a month had already passed.
She had just decided to return to Ark City when a customer finally showed up at her clinic, which had been closed for business for months.

The doctor at the illegal clinic next door sent her a mocking message.
Lin Zhilu shot at him without hesitation. As for the patient in front of her, who dared to hold a knife to her throat, she promptly replaced the wireless collar around his neck with a shock collar.

Everyone knew that Lin Zhilu had a loyal mad dog by her side. He helped her fight her way back to the Central Tower, then took advantage of having someone backing him to run wild in Ark City.
But only Jiang Xiu knew that he wouldn't help Lin Zhilu when she was isolated and helpless. He only wanted to take advantage of her vulnerability.
Jiang Xiu finally found his chance. He seized the collar's controller and pressed Lin Zhilu against him.
In the cramped corner, their bodies pressed tightly together, their breaths and heartbeats growing clearer by the moment.
"May I ask you for a kiss now?"
Lin Zhilu raised her head and lightly brushed a kiss against the corner of his mouth.
The next second, Jiang Xiu stiffened and collapsed, curling up in pain at Lin Zhilu's feet.
Lin Zhilu crushed the shock collar's controller beneath her foot, and the current immediately coursed through Jiang Xiu again.
Tears welled in his eyes and ran down his cheeks.
Lin Zhilu crouched, gripped his chin, and forcefully raised his face, gently wiping the tears from the corner of his mouth.
"You've earned it."
Jiang Xiu's breathing was faint. His eyes brimmed with covetousness and desire as he gazed at her.
"I love you."
