In the story within the story, Shen Mancí and Su Zhixi have a Jianghu-style stepmother-stepdaughter relationship, with no blood ties. Shen Mancí never legally married Su's father. Their exact relationship will be revealed in the novel. There is no incestuous relationship, and Su Zhixi is an adult.
