During the Tianbao era, demons ran rampant. They say that anyone whose body is invaded by demonic energy either dies or becomes a demon. An imperial edict was issued in Chang'an: Capture a demon and receive a generous reward.
In no time, demon hunters from across the land flocked to the city.
But then a Taoist priest appeared from nowhere and, single-handedly, wiped out every demon in the world. At last, peace returned to the human realm.
Years later, signs of demonic energy returning began to emerge.

Yingzhao, who didn't dare move a muscle: ...
When asked why they were here:
Yingzhao: "I wander everywhere. I'm a half-demon, despised by humans in the human realm and by demons in the demon realm."
Xin Chengxian: "I'm a Taoist priest of the Chaoyuan Pavilion. Naturally, I travel the world, capturing every demon I see."
Song Tiyun: "I was just banished from Chang'an."
Since fate has brought us together, why not hunt demons as a group?
Song Tiyun politely declined: "No demon hunting, thank you. I'm on my way to take up an appointment. Farewell."
But then he saw the thick mass of demonic energy before him and promptly came back.
Xin Chengxian: "There's only one road ahead. Isn't it a bit crowded with three of us?"
Yingzhao: "Don't worry. I can fly."
Song Tiyun squeezed in anyway: "It's not crowded at all. When three people walk together, one of them can be my teacher."
And so, the three of them set off in a donkey cart, swaying along the road...
