A Fish in the Pond

Just as Sheng Yanyao was discovering love, he met Lin Que, his first love, who had gone to great lengths to pursue him. Lin Que tricked him out of his money and feelings. Though he seemed to love Sheng Yanyao more than anyone, he was really just a social climber who used him as a stepping stone.

Once he'd achieved his goal, Lin Que flew across the ocean and vanished without a trace.

Deeply hurt, Sheng Yanyao shut everyone out.

Things began to change when someone completely different from his first love came into his life. Xing Xiao wasn't slick, had a simple mind, and wasn't very good at reading people.

But he did share one thing with Lin Que.

He was always grinning.

Xing Xiao would fall asleep the moment Sheng Yanyao got in the mood, ruining everything by saying good night. Sheng Yanyao had no choice but to carry the much-plumper Xing Xiao he'd been raising to bed, and his habit of drinking at night gradually faded until he stopped altogether.

Xing Xiao was a fool. To get back at Sheng Yanyao, he poured boiling water on every flower in the courtyard, each worth fifty thousand yuan, killing them all and leaving Sheng Yanyao furious and helpless.

When people mocked him, he would only good-naturedly say, "You're right." And when Sheng Yanyao was feeling low, he'd say sweet things to cheer him up.

It was as if Xing Xiao had sunshine in his very nature. He could sweep away all the gloom in Sheng Yanyao, help him relax a little amid his exhausting, tedious work, and let him finally put the past behind him and embrace a new life.
