Stars and Moon Over the Vast Sea

A Naruto fanfic, pairing Neji Hyuga and Hinata Hyuga, BG.

If I could set aside our loyalties, you would be the one I loved most. But I can't.

At midnight in the vast desert, velvet-blue darkness flowed slowly overhead. Stars gleamed like bright pearls, and the flawless jade of the moon made the night seem almost mythical. Moonlight and starlight clearly outlined the man's agile figure, and just as clearly marked the distance between him and her. For the first time, Hinata felt the kind man drifting away from her, from this side of the desert to the clouds beyond, with no warmth or regret.

"Brother Neji."

"..."

"I'm sorry."

"You have nothing to apologize to me for," Neji said calmly. "My plans were mistaken. I'm the one who should apologize."
