Sickly but secretly overpowered slacker senior brother vs. considerate but ruthless workaholic junior brother
During the battle to seal the demons, Zhulan saves his master but damages his spiritual root, leaving him crippled. The chief physician declares that he will never ascend or attain the Dao. Zhulan doesn’t care. He wants to kill one person: the one who fell to demonic cultivation and caused the Sword Sect’s destruction.
The Sword Sect forbids disciples from killing one another. Violators have their spiritual power taken away and are expelled from the sect.
Zhulan isn’t afraid of losing his spiritual root, but he doesn’t want to be expelled.
His junior brother sets a bowl down in front of him, full of concern. “Senior Brother, have your medicine first.”
Zhulan picks up the outrageously bitter medicine, frowns for a long while, then drinks it.
Once Shen Yu leaves, Zhulan tears a page from the storybook in his hand and starts drawing golden light talismans.
After wandering around the Sword Sect, Zhulan hears the disciples call him a good-for-nothing with his own ears.
Shen Yu learns about it and is indignant on his behalf. “Senior Brother, they called you useless. I’ll teach them a lesson for you.”
Zhulan shuts his eyes and drains the increasingly bitter medicine in one gulp. The bitterness leaves him speechless for a moment. “...No need!”
Once Shen Yu leaves, Zhulan gets right back to making golden light talismans as fast as he can.
His junior brother goes out of his way to care for him, but Zhulan has never appreciated it.
That is, until his junior brother invites him down the mountain to exterminate demons with ulterior motives. Knowing his chance has finally come, Zhulan happily accepts and packs every golden light talisman he has.
This time, he won’t give Shen Yu the chance.
