Refusing to Pursue the Target

World-weary, vicious female lead x ruthless male supporting character

Liang Qian transmigrates into a book. Her target for the mission is Xiao Changliu, the male supporting character from the original story. He is ruthless, so clever he seems almost supernatural, and deeply calculating. He is devoted to his career and goes toe-to-toe with the male lead, neither gaining the upper hand.

System: "Your mission is to make this male supporting character fall in love with you."

Liang Qian: "I refuse."

System: "You'll die if you refuse."

Liang Qian, indifferent: "Good. I don't want to live anyway."

"..." In the end, the System changes the rules. If she doesn't pursue him, she won't be able to kill herself until her target falls in love with her.

Liang Qian still refuses to pursue him. She even makes him her enemy outright, behaving recklessly and acting even more ruthlessly than he does.

At their first meeting, Liang Qian presses her sword to Xiao Changliu's throat.

Every time they meet after that, if he is untroubled, she stirs up trouble; if he is in trouble, she kicks him when he's down.

There's no way she's going to pursue him. She won't lower her head and chase after him, not in this lifetime.

And so Liang Qian goes from an obscure cannon-fodder character to a notorious, widely known villainess who inspires terror wherever she goes. Just mentioning her name can stop children from crying at night.

In the end, Liang Qian nearly gets Xiao Changliu killed. He fights his way through layer upon layer of enemies and walks up to her, the one responsible, then offers her his sword. "Want to kill me? Do it yourself."

Xiao Changliu: In her life, she has met countless people, but never once looked back at them. I'm the only one she pursues relentlessly. If that's not love, what is?

1. The female lead really does try to kill the male lead in the early chapters. The male lead is love-struck, so they balance each other out. This is a sweet romance.
