1. The golden phoenix who rose from a mountain village
My mother was a college student who had been kidnapped and brought to the village. Sister Xiaohui from the village helped her escape.
Xiaohui was beaten half to death and married off. She asked me to take the college entrance exam in her place.
I got into Xiamen University. People said that children born to clever women were clever too. Everyone said a golden phoenix had emerged from the mountains.
Only I knew that I wasn't the golden phoenix. My mother was.
2. The ghostly senior in the women's dorm
I'm a junior in college. Lately, everyone in the women's dorm has been on edge.
They say the senior who jumped to her death in some year has returned. Someone was startled by her in the middle of the night, and a scream rang through the whole building.
I didn't believe it. Then one night, I felt someone blow cold air onto my face. I opened my eyes, and the ghostly senior was right in front of me, her face against mine, smiling eerily.
I scooted back and nodded politely. "Hello, fellow student. Please respect my personal space, because I'm not a lesbian."
The ghostly senior broke down on the spot.
