Peng Pai, an unlucky food blogger, accidentally transmigrates into an ancient danmei novel called The Illegitimate Son's Path to Reversal, becoming a married ger.
In the original story, the ger is used by others and treats the illegitimate-son male lead with cold violence, refusing to give him food or drink. He drives the male lead out of the house, and when he returns, he has become an overpowered hero with a powerful army at his command. He wipes out the whole family.
Peng Pai: ... (Is this really how it goes?)
He absolutely refuses to die such a tragic death!
Recently, Guan Shu has noticed that the husband he was forced to marry is acting a little strange. He used to never give Guan Shu a proper meal. Even when he did, it was leftovers, never anything hot. Lately, though, he sometimes makes fresh steamed buns, and there might even be meat.
The family matriarch withholds his writing supplies, so he has no brush or ink to use...
His husband secretly slips him a brush and two ink sticks. "Quick, hide these. Whatever you do, don't let anyone from the main house find them."
He has no clothes to wear...
His husband sews him a set. "I'm not very good at this, so make do with it for now."
He has no money to buy books...
His husband secretly brings him one. "I begged someone to copy this for me. It cost me several hundred copper coins."
Guan Shu looks at the book Peng Pai gave him with a complicated expression.
The title is the same, and the contents are more or less the same. It's just that the handwriting doesn't look like it's worth several hundred copper coins.
The occasional mistake is one thing, but some pages are even written horizontally from left to right.
And... "I too hard le ╰ (‵□′)╯"... what does that mean?
While helping the bewildered future hero, Peng Pai works hard to earn money: raising chickens and ducks, selling food and handicrafts, resolving conflicts, and making friends with everyone. All he can do now is save enough money and earn enough affection points to divorce the future hero, so he won't get killed later.
Then he can live his own life in peace.
But just when he has finally saved enough money, the future hero refuses to divorce him. Not only that, the man becomes a military commander in the region and says that if they divorce, Peng Pai won't be allowed to open a shop.
...Seriously, how can anyone act like this?!
Peng Pai complains, "Husband, that's called repaying kindness with ingratitude. I've been so good to you all this time, and you repay me by turning against me?!"
Guan Shu laughs in a low voice. "Fine. Then let me repay you. What does Pai'er want? Whatever I have, I'll give it all to you."
Peng Pai agonizes over it for a long while, then asks cautiously, "Then can you promise to talk to me five hundred more sentences every day?"
Guan Shu: "..." What kind of strange request is that?
In his previous life, Peng Pai was mute. He wanted so badly to talk.
So, at night...
Guan Shu: "Pai'er, can you stop talking while I'm putting in the effort?"
Peng Pai: "But you already owe me at least ten thousand sentences. →_→"
Guan Shu: "..."
It would be best if he owed him for a lifetime. If he could never repay the debt, they'd be bound together for life after life.
