After the huge success of Protecting Beika, the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department wanted to collaborate with China on a series about the everyday work of Japanese police officers, Protecting Beika Town.
But since it was a Sino-Japanese co-production, Chinese police officers had to appear in it, too.
Wenren Lingyun, whose parents were both police officers, was studying in Japan and became a police officer there.
She teamed up with Rei Furuya and four others, who had just graduated from the police academy, as well as Kogoro Mouri, who had been demoted and sent away after making a mistake.
At a koban, or neighborhood police box, in Beika Town, they began their everyday lives dealing with all kinds of petty incidents.
On her first day at work, she met the daughter of their laid-back station chief, as well as the girl's childhood friends, eight-year-old Ran Mouri and Shinichi Kudo.
The two kids started showing up every day and became the police box's mascots.
Wenren Lingyun also caught Kaito Kuroba, a high school student who was wandering the streets during class. He gave her a flower with a magic trick.
After she brought him back to the police box, he even managed to free her and Jinpei Matsuda from their handcuffs after they accidentally got cuffed together and lost the key.
So he had a special talent, too.
Wenren Lingyun decided to keep an eye on Kaito Kuroba to make sure he didn't go astray.
Wenren Lingyun and the five police academy graduates went from getting off on the wrong foot to becoming close in no time.
Hiromitsu Morofushi cooked for her at her dorm after work, Kenji Hagiwara drove her on patrol, Jinpei Matsuda helped her corner suspects, and Rei Furuya stopped her when she was about to beat someone up.
When a major anime convention came to town, they cosplayed and patrolled the venue to keep the peace.
When the grand summer festival arrived, they ran a stall undercover and became the top sellers.
When police dogs were assigned, they got a short-legged corgi with a peach-shaped backside, giving the Beika Town police box a new canine officer.
By chance, the police superintendent organized a bank-robbery drill and assigned the Beika Town police box to play the robbers.
The group enthusiastically planned to pull off a big score!
But no one told them that the bank used for the drill had been changed at the last minute.
They really did rob a bank of five hundred million yen and leave in triumph.
The next day, news reports were everywhere: a group of serving police officers had botched their drill and successfully robbed a bank, humiliating the superintendent.
Online commenters said: "Someone should really investigate these people. They're the real deal!"
The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department leadership saw how lively things were at the Beika Town police box.
They started sending over their own sons, who were in college, to give them some early work experience as sons of police officers.
So the Beika Town police box gained two more interns, Heiji Hattori and Hakucho Tan.
But wait a minute!
Why did they say she had to protect a genius boy, then dump him in her care?
Wenren Lingyun could only make a solemn promise to the ten-year-old boy in front of her, Hiroki Sawada.
"From now on, Hiroki, you'll live with me. I'll take good care of you."
But why was the Black Organization trying to trick him into working for them?
And why did they send someone to approach her and Hiroki while pretending to be a single father with a child?
Gin, using the alias Kurosawa Jin, teamed up with eight-year-old Shiho Miyano and played the role of a single father.
Were they trying to form a blended family with her and Hiroki?!
Life at the Beika Town police box had become truly colorful.
And her life as a police officer in Japan had become just as colorful.
All of it was being broadcast to audiences in China and Japan, with Wenren Lingyun as a major focus of the show Protecting Beika Town.
[Please note:]
[I'm not very familiar with Detective Conan, so there will definitely be mistakes and out-of-character moments. Please don't read if that bothers you.]
[This is a slice-of-life story with very little mystery-solving. Everyone survives, and Gin gets picked on.]
[The heroine has romantic storylines with several male characters. It's a harem and love-triangle story, but I won't know who the male lead is until the end.]
[The characters' timelines are scrambled, and the story has no connection to the original main plot.]
[I'm not a shipper of any particular pairing. Because of the story's setup, every pairing except ShinRan will be broken up, so the heroine really is surrounded by a harem and love-triangle drama.]
Theme: Stand up for the weak and fight the strong
