Jiang Furong is a human from Earth who transmigrates into a beastfolk world. In this world, one's status depends on one's spirit form. Spirit forms range from chickens, horses, cows, and pigs to mythical creatures. The higher the level, the greater one's strength and social standing.
She has barely arrived when she meets a pitying gaze. "With a spirit form like yours... you probably won't get into the War Academy."
"Impossible." Jiang Furong is confident. She looks at the System. "I get it. This is a story about leveling up and turning my life around, right? Like, my spirit form looks like a chicken but is actually a phoenix, or looks like a worm but is actually a dragon..."
The System is confused. "Why would you think that? How could a human like you possibly have a spirit form?"
Jiang Furong, who's been a winner at life since childhood, sees black before her eyes and asks in horror, "You mean I can't get into college?"
The System hurriedly reassures her, saying the good times are still ahead.
According to the System, beastfolk were originally war machines created by humans to fight the mutated creatures in contaminated zones. Their genes were engraved with a longing for and fascination with their creators. Humans in this world went extinct a thousand years ago, and she is the only human left.
The System says with confidence, "Isn't that even better than getting into college?"
Jiang Furong asks, puzzled, "Is it? Then how did humans go extinct?"
The System: "..."
Jiang Furong: "...?"
The System flips through its files.
[...An obsession with and longing for a certain species is a genetic shackle. A free spirit must never be enslaved or trampled upon.]
[The beastfolk no longer wished to be controlled by their weak creators. They launched the Human Eradication Plan and ultimately won the war.]
The System closes the file. "How about we talk about getting into college instead? As System No. 002, the Winner at Life, I've got a Plan B. How does a story about leveling up and turning your life around sound? We can start with getting into the War Academy."
After humans went completely extinct, the beastfolk began to suffer genetic collapse.
A thousand years later, they still hadn't gotten used to the physical emptiness, mental fragility, nerve-tingling itch, and unbearable pain that came with genetic collapse.
Every cell in their bodies was filled with longing for another species. It was the most vicious curse imaginable.
Even though the history books' account of the "Human Eradication Plan" was riddled with inconsistencies, generation after generation passed, and the era when humans and beastfolk coexisted became distant history. The pain humans had inflicted on the beastfolk, however, continued without end. So they became even more convinced that this had been an honorable war in which the beastfolk rebelled against their slave masters and ultimately won their freedom.
A thousand years had passed, yet the hawks still wrote eight hundred posts a day cursing humanity and praising free spirits.
Jiang Furong was nearly scared senseless by these mentally unstable beastfolk. But if the mentally unstable, high-level genius beastfolk in question was her, well, that was another matter.
Ha! Life is a wilderness! She's done being human!
