In his previous life, Jiang Chong was a scumbag whom everyone hated and even dogs avoided. Everyone wondered how the Jiang family could have produced someone like him. Then the truth came out: Jiang Chong was a fake young master who had taken the real one's place. The real young master was frail and kind, and everyone loved him after he was brought home. That only made Jiang Chong, who was always turning the household upside down, even more unbearable.
During a clash between the real and fake young masters, Jiang Chong was kicked out for good. Then a distant relative of the Jiang family, so distantly related they were practically strangers, took him in. This relative was a feared big shot in the industry: Mu Xun, known in the underworld as Master Xun.
Jiang Chong had no good days under Mu Xun's roof. Mu Xun was never lenient when disciplining him. Whenever Jiang Chong did something wrong, he was punished, and often got such a thorough scolding that he couldn't get out of bed.
Sometimes he felt wronged. Why did it seem as if everyone was against him? After feeling sorry for himself, he only became more rebellious.
You can't straighten a crooked tree with brute force. Under Mu Xun's harsh discipline, Jiang Chong only grew more crooked, becoming a good-for-nothing delinquent. Later, his gang of friends asked him to join in a staged kidnapping, abducting the real young master to demand ransom. For the sake of realism, they tied Jiang Chong up too.
But before the Jiang family could arrive, Mu Xun got there first, eyes bloodshot, panic and urgency written all over his face. The instant Jiang Chong saw him, he was surprised and instinctively smiled. Mu Xun immediately realized it was a vile prank.
He slapped Jiang Chong, his eyes filled with disappointment.
Jiang Chong etched that look into his heart and suddenly felt that nothing mattered anymore.
Unexpectedly, when disaster struck, everyone rushed to protect the frail real young master. Only Mu Xun shielded Jiang Chong with his own body.
At the end, Mu Xun looked at him without saying a word, yet his eyes seemed to hold a thousand unspoken things. Jiang Chong couldn't understand. He wanted to, but the man before him would never answer again.

In the blink of an eye, he was reborn. He was back at the last clash with the real young master before he was kicked out. When he turned around, Mu Xun was standing outside, his expression indifferent, as if looking at a stranger.
Jiang Chong walked over with his hands in his pockets. Though it was early winter, he was still wearing a thin hoodie. His neck shrank instinctively against the cold wind. He looked away and gave an offhand smile. "I want to go with you. Will you let me?"
He looked up without thinking, and caught Mu Xun's eyes, turbulent with hidden emotion.
Mu Xun closed his eyes. When he opened them again, they were as indifferent as before. In a low voice, he told the Jiang family, "Why don't you leave this child to me to discipline?"
