Yu Funi transmigrated into a book, into a fake-and-real-young-master novel packed with every kind of outrageous melodrama. He had read it shortly before he died.
The good news: the character he'd transmigrated into was neither the real young master who was bullied nor the vicious fake young master.
The bad news: he was the cannon-fodder marriage partner engaged to the two young masters...
The reason a cannon-fodder character is cannon fodder is inevitably this:
At first, the original character resents the change in his marriage partner, favors the fake young master, and bullies the real one.
Later, he falls in love with the real young master, is consumed with regret, and tells him the truth: he's a stand-in for the original male lead's first love. Then he starts interfering in the romance between the real young master and the destined male lead.
As a result, after the original male lead and the real young master spend half the novel breaking every law in the criminal code, the original male lead finally comes to his senses and deals with the original character and his first love while pursuing his wife.
Yu Funi thinks that's no good. He thinks he can still do something about it, so he vows to become the real young master's love-life bodyguard.
But why does the real young master treat him like a confidant and older brother? Why has the original male lead started treating him like a romantic rival? And why has the fake young master started chasing after him instead?
Yu Funi feels like his whole world is falling apart. He doesn't want to get involved with any of these people at all!!
When the fake young master corners him again, Yu Funi grabs a handsome, straight guy who had just been rejected after confessing to a girl.
Yu Funi pulls out a card. "I'll give you a million. Confess to me."
Pei Jingmo, who'd innocently gotten drenched in alcohol after being mistaken for someone else: "Huh?"
Yu Funi: "I mean, since you're not into men, could you pretend to pursue me and then let me reject you? I'll pay you a lot."
Pei Jingmo looks into those beautiful eyes and is completely bewitched. "Okay."
Yu Funi sees hope for his future. "You're a great buddy! I can count on you!"
Pei Jingmo: "..."
When he runs into the real young master entangled with the original male lead again, Yu Funi sees the original male lead's face, a palette of sixty percent nostalgia, thirty percent resentment, and ten percent jealousy, and finally understands.
Yu Funi gives him an accusing look. "Hey, man, how are you the first love? Wait, no, that means you're into men too!!"
Pei Jingmo is a little sheepish, but not that much. "I never said I wasn't."
Yu Funi looks from Pei Jingmo to the main characters and has a sudden inspiration. If he can get the original male lead to give up on his first love, isn't that a roundabout way of saving the day?
Yu Funi pulls out another card. "I'll pay more. One more scene, as a couple."
Pei Jingmo: "...What?"
The love-life bodyguard achieves some progress. Yu Funi gets drunk and starts trying to become sworn brothers with Pei Jingmo.
Yu Funi: "Hic! Good bro, hic! You saved my life, hic! Waaaah!"
Pei Jingmo doesn't understand and doesn't like it. He comes up with a plan.
Yu Funi wakes up to find Pei Jingmo lying beside him in disheveled clothes. He's... secretly delighted. You lecher, nice work!
Yu Funi tries hard to keep the corners of his mouth down. "I-I'll take responsibility!"
Pei Jingmo pretends to be aggrieved. "Th-that's fine too."
