[An Xi's Perspective]
An Xi took in a badly injured man who had lost his memory. The man only remembered that his name was Meng Huanjun. An Xi tried to send him away, but couldn't bring himself to turn him out.
When An Xi sprained his ankle gathering herbs, Meng Huanjun carried him down the mountain. When village hooligans framed him, Meng Huanjun got revenge on his behalf. An Xi was an orphan who had never been cared for like this. Gradually, he fell in love with Meng Huanjun.
But Meng Huanjun never smiled. It seemed he had never smiled at all, not even when An Xi deliberately made a fool of himself to amuse him. The man promised to return after the imperial exams, but vanished without a trace. The villagers pointed fingers at An Xi and called him shameless, but he stubbornly kept waiting at the village entrance, day after day.
Then, by chance, he went to the prefectural city and saw the city lord's eldest son doting on a pampered, charming young man who lived in the lap of luxury. Only then did he understand what it meant to be worlds apart.
An Xi accepted reality and agreed to travel with his master, an old doctor. He would leave this place and might never return. But on the road out of the prefecture, a cavalry unit surrounded him. Meng Huanjun stepped down from a luxurious carriage, his expression dark and ruthless. He lifted An Xi's chin. "Where do you think you're running off to?"
[Meng Huanjun's Perspective]
As the legitimate son of the city lord, Meng Huanjun had grown up in luxury. But his younger half-brother tried to kill him, forcing him to lie low and recover in a farmer's home.
He didn't want to admit that he'd developed feelings for a coarse country lad. He didn't want to acknowledge the time he'd spent scraping by in the countryside. But his true feelings made him face reality.
He promised to return and marry An Xi. After returning to the city lord's residence and reclaiming his power, he learned that An Xi planned to leave for good. Furious, Meng Huanjun sent soldiers to bring him back, only to meet the young man's frightened gaze.
A few notes:
1. Read casually and have fun. Don't take it too seriously.
2. Both leads are physically and emotionally faithful to each other. There are just misunderstandings, and the top has to win back his wife. A little angst, not too much.
Theme: The previous book is almost finished.
