[Synopsis]
As a concubine husband sent to the prince's manor in place of the intended bride, Lin Qiuqiu is banished as soon as he arrives to the most remote, dilapidated courtyard. Everyone thinks he'll waste away there for the rest of his life, and looks forward to seeing him make a fool of himself.
But Lin Qiuqiu manages to make even the broken-down courtyard thrive. The wall collapses? He rolls up his sleeves and rebuilds it. No food? He makes his own way, with a vegetable patch and a fishpond. Out of money? He knocks a hole through the rear wall of the manor and sells snacks. Lin Qiuqiu lives a full and satisfying life.
His little eatery opens, and the customers come in droves, much to everyone's dismay.
Then one day, the husband he's only heard about, the tall and handsome Prince of Changling, appears before him in splendid brocade, every inch the peerless nobleman.
"I hear today's bowl of jade-green lotus seed soup was made by you?" His husband looks him up and down.
Lin Qiuqiu raises an eyebrow and smiles, holding up his dirty hands. "Ten taels of silver for a bowl."
The Prince of Changling chuckles. "How interesting." He reaches out and takes the hand of the concubine he has never met before.
In time, the Prince of Changling, whose charm leaves the world swooning with envy, will cradle his husband's dirt-stained hands and bow his head to wipe every fingertip clean.
In the morning, a bowl of plain noodles, with a crisp, sweet baby bok choy blanched on the side.
At noon, a pot of spicy dry-fried corn and pork ribs, perfect with rice.
In the evening, they walk hand in hand to Crisp Fragrance House for a bowl of lamb soup.
Three meals a day, the two of them close together, with the beauty of every season by their side.
