I'm the Unlucky Captain of a Boy Band

After being kicked out of his home by his father, demon hunter Jiang Mu joins a boy band audition show to keep a close eye on his target, a rabbit spirit, and makes it through the preliminary auditions on the strength of his handsome face.

He plans to catch the rabbit slipping and arrest him, taking him back to the mountains. But the other never gives him a chance to find fault.

After freeloading for a few months, Jiang Mu decides that since the rabbit isn't hurting anyone, he'll let him off for now and go look for other targets. The show is about to end, and his dad should have cooled off by now, so Jiang Mu figures he can probably go home. He never expects to secure a spot at every round and actually debut.

After debuting, Jiang Mu intends to quietly play the pretty-boy decoration in this boy band that was popular from the moment it debuted, keep an eye on the rabbit in the group, and look for other harmful demons in the entertainment industry. He hopes to finish his idol career with everything appearing calm and peaceful. Instead, he draws the leader position right after debuting.

A disclaimer longer than the synopsis:

* The male lead acts like a swaggering king on the surface, but he's really an unlucky guy who saves the world while making snarky comments. His intelligence is questionable and his fighting ability is average, so fans of pretty-boy eye candy are in luck.

* The love interest seems like a gentle, laid-back old soul, but in private, when he's dealing with the male lead, he's an obnoxious, violent rabbit. Most of the fighting prowess belongs to him.

* The characters are not based on real people. Please don't make real-person connections.

* Feel free to point out mistakes. Typos will be corrected.

* The romance is very, very slow burn. The story is told from the male lead's perspective, so the love interest doesn't get much page time at first. Read at your own discretion.

* The entertainment-industry activities and the cultivation and supernatural-power settings are all made up. There are mountains of author-invented details, with just a little novel hidden among them.

* The unlucky leader's daily life of taking the blame, the boy band's fake-brotherly bonds, and demon hunting in the entertainment industry, all wrapped up in a funny, uplifting story with a tiny bit of mystery.

* This should be an episodic story, with the protagonist connecting the stories of his bandmates.

* I feel like this book should have a character-art cover, but commissions are too expensive. I don't want to pay to write, so I'll use this for now. TAT Maybe one day I'll learn how to draw. (2024.9)
