Night Blindness and Fireflies

"He's her brother, and he's also her Neverland."

Cunning little night-blind fox x cool, aloof bad-boy wolf

1.

At seventeen, Shi Qing first realized clearly that Cheng Youbai didn't belong to her alone.

The silver-haired top student was her brother in name, and the dream guy of countless girls.

Shi Qing was night-blind. One time, in a pitch-black stairwell, she accidentally brushed her lips against his.

Cheng Youbai's voice was colder and more frightening than ever. "Shi Qing, what the hell is wrong with you?"

2.

"Youye, you're really not going to enter the national singing competition?"

"I don't care about it!"

"But... I heard Qingqing wants to enter."

To everyone's surprise, Cheng Youbai entered the national singing competition, putting in countless days and nights of hard work until his heart almost gave out.

Shi Qing was terribly worried. "Brother, why are you pushing yourself so hard? What if your heart condition comes back?"

Cheng Youbai smiled and ruffled her hair.

"Qingqing, my illness is nothing. Whatever you want, I'll get it for you, even if I have to pluck the stars from the sky."

A seventeen-year-old girl, buried in piles of exam papers, with a crush that had grown into a tower.

She never got to see her "star-plucking boy". Instead, the two of them were torn apart.

Six years later, Cheng Youbai dragged her into a private room at a bar and flung her onto the sofa.

He leaned in close, heat blazing, madness and menace in his eyes as he gripped her chin.

"Shi Qing, who told you to come here? Are you trying to get yourself killed?"

Shi Qing smelled the liquor on him and heard his wild heartbeat. She couldn't help smiling.

"Cheng Youbai, didn't you say that once you left, you would never come back? Did you come back for me?"

"What are you to me?"

"What am I to you?" Shi Qing pushed his hand away and grabbed his shirt collar.

She reminded him, word for word, "Aren't you supposed to have a great memory? Have you forgotten that you said you'd be my second pair of eyes?"

Cheng Youbai said nothing. He kissed her hard, more fiercely than ever.

"Qingqing, you're not alone. You still have me.

I'll be your island, your second pair of eyes, and your firefly for the rest of your life."
