A new officer recently joined the police station: brown hair, brown eyes, a mild temperament, and, aside from being fairly good-looking, rather ordinary.
That is, unless you count casually pulling a streetlight pole out of the ground to knock out a suspected bomber, or lifting a police car and hurling it at criminals trying to resist inside a raided hideout.
"Is that guy really human?"
"I don't think so."
"Hey."
The black-haired, curly-haired explosives expert tapped on his colleague's desk.
"At least Heiwajima really did save us. Don't gossip about him behind his back."
Not far away, the man had heard everyone's quiet chatter long ago, but he'd been on the phone and hadn't bothered to respond. He blinked as laughter burst from the other end.
"What, Shizuo? Sounds like you're getting along great with your coworkers!"
"Moscato, what did you do this time?"
Bourbon glanced at Rum, who was clearly furious, then quietly asked the new colleague who'd earned a codename in just three months, his face full of exasperation.
The black-haired, red-eyed man smiled sincerely.
"Nothing. Rum's men were just too fragile. They gave up their lives so easily."
Got it. He'd talked someone into jumping off a building again.
Bourbon sighed.
Unlike most members of the organization who took assignments and got the job done, Moscato was a classic thrill seeker. Fortunately, so far, only people in the organization had died. If Moscato ever went after ordinary people, Bourbon would have no choice but to find a way to capture the frail, disabled man first.
"I didn't talk them into anything. I just gave them different choices."
Moscato's smile turned a little more unhinged.
"After all, I truly, truly, truly love humanity!"
Going after ordinary people was even less likely. Someone wouldn't let him.
...This guy really is a little scary.
Bourbon's eyes darkened for a moment, then he put on his professional smile and replied perfunctorily,
"Is that so? Then I wish you and all of humanity happiness."
Bourbon had always thought that Moscato, who couldn't walk and looked thin and fragile, would eventually get burned by playing with fire. He never expected the man to make it to the end.
And as an undercover agent, no less.
Huh?
And could someone tell him why the police station's rising star knew Moscato?
While rounding up the remnants of the Black Organization after they had inexplicably fallen apart, Bourbon heard his star officer roar in fury. Then he saw the man gently lift Moscato out of his wheelchair, in a way that completely contradicted his tone, and Bourbon's eyes practically popped out of his head.
After being dragged by some inexplicable world consciousness into some inexplicable world and told he couldn't go home until he completed a mission, that was one thing.
But he also had to do missions with Shizuo?
He might as well jump off a building.
Tch.
The strongest man in Shinjuku glanced at his sworn enemy, who sat in a wheelchair and seemed to be trembling slightly for some reason.
"I don't care what you think. I'm going back."
"...Of course I'm going back too."
The former most notorious information broker in Ikebukuro, now an asset analyst, had already taken out his laptop and started gathering information. After a while, he looked up.
"Shizu-chan, if you want to go back, then do what I say, okay?"
"Huh?"
In the end, he listened, and they successfully completed the mission.
All's well that ends well.
Reading notes / Warnings
[Absolutely no breaking up Shizuo and Izaya. Please don't mention any breakup pairings or reversed pairings in my comments, thank you.]
[Lots of personal interpretations and headcanons.]
▲ Everyone is platonic except Shizuo and Izaya.
▲ The characters belong to Ctlw and Qsgc, but my interpretation of them is my own.
▲ The timeline is set earlier and doesn't involve the main plot. Hagiwara's death has been changed to give us the complete cherry blossom set.
▲ The writing is average, and out-of-character moments are inevitable. I reserve the right to the final say.
