Klingsor's Last Summer

This work is also known as The Summer We Never Knew

Both leads are each other's only ones. First love. A stubborn, beautiful mute x a gentle, calculating older man

"There was only one grand summer in my life. After that summer, the moon fell from the sky. Every summer afterward, I gazed at that moon, jealous of all he had and enamored of his tenderness." - The Last Summer of Klingsor

One summer, when Xia Pusheng pretended not to hear, the mute boy heard Wen Yuexian say, "I love you."

A year earlier, after getting into university, Wen Yuexian was forced to choose the major his parents preferred and had to give up painting. In a fit of pique, he ran off to the countryside, where his late grandmother had lived.

There, nineteen-year-old Wen Yuexian met seventeen-year-old Xia Pusheng.

Xia Pusheng was the grandson of the Xia family in Xiaoping Village. Born mute and abandoned by his parents, he had grown up relying on his grandparents. Yet he was renowned for being exceptionally handsome, even in the surrounding villages.

At their first meeting, Wen Yuexian sat on a little motorized tricycle and stared at the handsome boy across from him, who did not speak. He thought the boy was a mountain spirit.

Then, when Xia Pusheng did not respond to him, Wen Yuexian mistakenly assumed he was deaf and mute.

Wen Yuexian loved painting. He painted everything he found beautiful, but after turning nineteen, he could only paint one thing: a beautiful boy, natural, mysterious, and pure.

Everyone who saw Wen Yuexian's paintings wondered who the boy was, but Wen Yuexian never told anyone.

Some even thought the boy was simply a character Wen Yuexian had made up.

Until a year later, when Xia Pusheng got into the same university as Wen Yuexian.

Only then did everyone who had seen Wen Yuexian's work understand: the boy was Wen Yuexian's beloved. The young painter had hidden his love in his paintings, and titled them First Love.

The boy's love blossomed in the bright, passionate summer and bore fruit in the autumn, when all things ripen.

Theme: A young man's love is sincere, passionate, and brave.
