Wind and Time

"Because land and sea heat up and cool down to different degrees over the course of a year, winds that blow over large areas between them and change direction regularly with the seasons are called monsoons."

In geography class, the teacher tirelessly explained the characteristics of the monsoon climate. A summer breeze drifted in through the window as the leaves of the parasol trees rustled. His deskmate was fast asleep behind an upright textbook.

Yang Shi propped his head on one hand and watched him without moving, remembering him saying, "I want to become a wind that can come and go as it pleases."

At the time, Yang Shi had only envied him. Later, the other boy truly became a wind he could never catch.
