After I Transmigrated Into a Book and Became a System, I Took a Side Gig as a Bystander Who Loves the Gossip

After pulling three all-nighters in a row, Xia Yumi fulfilled his mission and promptly died during the last exam of finals week.

When he opened his eyes again, he discovered that he had transmigrated into the world of a sugary romance novel filled with tangled relationships and multiple couples.

Of course, he was neither the protagonist nor the villain, much less a cannon fodder character.

He was the villain's Nth System, and his mission was to reform the blackened villain who had broken free of the plot's control.

Xia Yumi: ...

Huh? I woke up and I'm not even human anymore.

By the time Xie Lin realized he was the villain in a fictional world, he had already lost count of how many times he had been reborn.

The first time, he dutifully let the plot sweep him along, and ended up with nothing.

The second time, he realized something was wrong with the world he lived in. He fought back with all his might and completely wrecked the plot.

The third time, he was bound to a System that tried to guide him back onto the villain's storyline. Thanks to his performance, the System crashed and returned to its main world to be reformatted.

Xie Lin looked at this latest System and raised a mocking smile.

But after this "dark but not sweet" System had led him into one disaster after another, Xie Lin could no longer smile.

Xie Lin: Maybe I should just kill the protagonist and move on to the next rebirth...

The lousy transmigration bureau was short-staffed, so Xia Yumi had to work not only as a System but also as a gossip-loving bystander.

He had to shout, "My ship is real!" after the variety show ended, while Protagonist Couple No. 1 were secretly in love with each other.

He also had to play the observant fan who discovered the secret accounts where Protagonist Couple No. 2 recorded the details of their life together, just as years of secret marriage and misunderstandings were about to end in divorce.

Xia Yumi, the overworked System with too many jobs, held out his hand to the transmigration bureau: Sure, but you'll have to pay me extra. JPG

Xie Lin, standing beside him and taking advantage of his height, placed a hand on Xia Yumi's head. "Why don't you ship us?"

Xia Yumi: Pay me and I'll ship it. $-$

Xie Lin silently handed over all his bank cards.

Xia Yumi's eyes lit up: You got it, boss! Your professional shipper guarantees the sweetest ending, and I'll even write you a fanfic while I'm at it.

Xie Lin: All right. Can you write? If not, I can give you some fanfic action references. :D

The next morning, Xia Yumi woke up with a sore butt and angrily switched the positions of himself and Xie Lin in the fanfic.

One last desperate struggle. JPG
