The Mad Princess

An old-school, melodramatic angst novel, told in first person.

Ruthless Northwest Prince (descendant of a disgraced official) x clear-eyed general's daughter (who can't fight)

The groveling comes too late, and there won't even be ashes left.

Amnesia, a loss-of-sanity (?), and childhood sweethearts turned enemies.

On the day I was to be married, the man I loved led troops to the capital and "requested" an imperial edict.

The entire Shen family was sentenced to death, and the women were made government slaves.

He asked me, "Shen Jiao, do you like this wedding gift?"

Not long afterward, he abducted me to the northwest and drove me mad with his own hands.

But later, everyone knew that the Northwest Prince had defied all opposition and insisted on marrying a madwoman as his princess consort.

Whenever he held me, it hurt so much that my whole body trembled.

Feeling me shake, he loosened his arms and asked softly:

"Does it hurt?"

I quietly pulled away from his embrace, a hint of grievance in my voice:

"It hurts... Mother, how did A Nu get so many new wounds?"

The person behind me was silent for a long time, then took my wrist and gently stroked it.

"Never again."

I sobbed in his arms, crying that it hurt.

But inside, a voice said coldly: I want you to hurt just as much as I do.
