Nois is the youngest and most ordinary Alpha in the Order of Holy Knights. He rarely gets the chance to see Pope Murphy, and even when he does, the Pope is always bathed in holy light, frail and noble, yet wielding immense power.
By a twist of fate, Nois is brought before Murphy, who implores him to protect him alone as they disguise themselves and infiltrate the capital of a rival empire.
Murphy is a mature Omega, gracious and gentle in manner, renowned for his learning and wisdom. After extending his life for a thousand years through genetic surgery, his appearance remains perfect and immaculate. Official records state that he has never been marked.
Yet their destination is the Lyra Empire, where people hold barbaric beliefs and worship violence. Omegas have low social status and no equal citizenship rights, appearing only as Alpha dependents. They are even forbidden from using any kind of suppressant.
The mission is extremely dangerous for Murphy. He needs an Alpha knight to help and protect him, so they will switch roles: the knight will pose as the Pope's master, while the Pope attends to his daily needs.
Murphy personally chose the unheralded Nois.
"I trust you with all my heart, my student and knight, the prince I have chosen. I believe you are strong enough to protect me, and that your character would never let you take advantage of me in a moment of weakness," Murphy told Nois.
"However," he added with a narrow-eyed smile, "I will always be your guide. Even if something does happen, I alone will bear the responsibility."
