A Day in the Life of a Bianjing Shopkeeper

Blurb:

Zhen Baozhu had been quite content with life ever since she was born. Her parents were loving, her brothers got along, and her sisters were close.

That was until the most notorious wastrel in Gusu sent a matchmaker to ask for her hand, intending to take Baozhu as a concubine.

He was a notorious villain. Every year, several of his concubines died, and just last year he had gotten into trouble for abducting a woman and accidentally causing her death.

But his family was powerful, and he was released after only two days in jail.

The whole Zhen family was so worried about the matter that no one could sleep at night.

Before the family could come up with a plan, the matchmaker came back the very next day.

Zhen Baozhu smiled as she accepted the gifts the matchmaker brought. In public, she said the matter must be kept quiet. In secret, the whole family quietly sold off their property.

By the time the wastrel came looking for them, the Zhen family's shops had long since closed, their fields had all been sold, and the entire family had vanished without a trace. Only the gifts from the matchmaker remained, arranged neatly in the middle of the courtyard.

Meanwhile, Zhen Baozhu was leading her whole family in marveling at the gates of Bianjing!

She had been here for so long, and at last she could see the bustling capital for herself.

Unfortunately, the money they had brought was hardly enough in Bianjing, where every inch of land was worth its weight in gold. Well, time to roll up her sleeves and keep working hard!

● An alternate world, with a setting modeled on the Song dynasty.

● The story of a whole family working hard to get ahead.

● Kindly point out any errors in the story (except issues with the plot's development, as the story has to follow the outline and can't be changed~). I'll fix ordinary typos in batches; anything else will be revised after the story is complete.
